  • Year Two at 7AS Rugby Event

    Tue 25 Sep 2018

Year Two had a fantastic time at Alrebury Park today. Perins hosted their annual rugby event and Year Two and Year Three children from across the 7AS gathered together to enjoy an afternoon in the sunshine.

Year 10 leaders worked with groups of children. They played lots of team games together and the event ended with mini games of tag rugby.

The children had a fantastic time. Take a look at the pictures below to see some of the things they got up to....

  • Year Two Leavers Performance

    Wed 18 Jul 2018

Year Two children performed their amazing leavers show called 'The Captain's Treasure' to parents, pupils, staff, governors and members of the Junior School this week. Each and every child committed themselves to their role whether that be a swash buckling pirate, a dancing mermaid, a singing jungle animal, a dramatic storm maker or a dancing sea monster. The performance made the audience laugh and cry and the children received huge applause. As their final song proclaimed...they were AWESOME!

We wish our Year Two children the very best of luck as they move on their learning journey into Year Three.

  • Beauty and the Beast at Perins

    Mon 09 Jul 2018

We are incredibly proud of five Year Two pupils who took part in Perins production of Beauty and the Beast. These five children attended Perins every day for a week to rehearse their scenes. They had the opportunity to become part of the cast, watch other actors and actresses rehearse, go back stage, try on some of the costumes and be part of the technical rehearsal.

Year Two children were able to watch their peers in the dress rehearsal and it was wonderful to see our youngest stars shine on the stage.

It was a very tiring week for the Sun Hill actors as they took part in all 6 performances but they rose to the occasion and were exceptional ambassadors for the school. We are all very, very proud of their commitment, talent and dedication.

  • Sports Day

    Fri 08 Jun 2018

The Infant School had a fantastic day celebrating Sports Day on Monday 4th June. Children, parents, governors and staff gathered together to watch and cheer on all our young sports stars. Each year group took part in races such as egg and spoon, wheel barrow, balancing a bean bag, relay and even tug of war. The theme of our sports day was a giant teddy bear picnic in support of the Murray Parish Trust and we raised £180.43 for the charity.

  • Sun Hill Infants at the Watercress Festival

    Tue 22 May 2018

On Sunday 20th May, Alresford hosted the annual Watercress Festival and Sun Hill Infant children joined in with the celebrations!

Two Year two children became the Watercress king and queen and threw watercress to people along the procession as they travelled in a horse and cart.

A group of Year one children worked hard to create a dance that they performed on stage in the Church and the Sun Hill Young Voices also performed, singing songs from their latest performance ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

Our children were fantastic ambassadors for the school and we are very proud of them all.

  • Year Two Cricket Lesson

    Fri 18 May 2018
Year two enjoyed working with Rob from ‘All Stars Cricket’. They had a fantastic morning learning different skills to play the game. They practiced bowling and hitting with a bat as well as developing their coordination skills. Take a look at the photos to see how much fun the children had!
  • Year Two at the Sea City Museum

    Tue 01 May 2018

Year Two had a fantastic time at Southampton Sea City Museum today. We went to the museum to learn about the Titanic. The children learnt lots on the tour of the museum. They were able to look at exhibits, find out information and ask questions. We also spent time in a practical workshop where some children could dress up as crew and passengers and then take part in activities. These included handling artefacts, identifying areas of the boat through sight and smell and experimenting with water.

The children were exceptionally well behaved and had a fantastic time!

  • Opening of the Golden Gates

    Fri 27 Apr 2018

On Monday 23rd April 2018, our Golden Gates were officially opened.

Over a year and a half ago, Mrs Wilson had the idea to design brand new gates for the school's main entrance. Arts Council discussed this with Miss Riley and began to gather ideas of what the gates might look like. Mrs Waring Green then took these ideas to a black smith, Sam Bailey. Sam designed his initial ideas for the gate and explained this to the children within an assembly, as well as sharing his career as a black smith.

During this time, many Alresford companies and groups donated money to the creation of the gates. Each of these companies are represented within the gates to show the community of Alresford. Year Two worked with Mrs Gandy and Sam to draw pictures of each company and these designs were then incorporated into the centre of the gates.

Finally, the children offered their ideas of the words that they would like to be on the archway of the gates; words that demonstrate the values of our school.

I am sure that you will agree that the gates are amazing and we hope they are used for many years to come as new children begin their learning journey at Sun Hill Infant School.

  • Bags of Help

    Fri 26 Feb 2016
We are delighted to announce that together, Sun Hill Infant and Junior Schools have been awarded a minimum of £8,000 to spend on improvements to the school grounds. Before Christmas we applied to the Groundwork Trust / Tesco Bags of Help scheme and earlier this month we heard that we had been shortlisted to the final three projects. There are three grants available - £8,000, £10,000 and £12,000 and the level of award we get will be determined by customer votes in the Winchester Tesco Extra. The grants have been funded by the 5p plastic bag charge and have to be spent on environmental projects, so we are planning to spend ours on shelters and seating for children, bug hotels and a motion activated webcam, solar panels for the greenhouse to heat and irrigate it, new seating areas for Junior classes to use for learning outdoors, storage units, and improving access for wheel users to the playing field. We need you! Voting at Tesco Extra begins this Saturday and runs until Sunday 6th March. Every time you shop at Big Tesco, you'll get a token to place in `our' voting bin - the grants will be awarded according to project popularity, so even if you're not usually a Tesco shopper, or don't go into Winchester often, please can we ask you to make at least one special journey next week? You can vote every time you shop - and please do let friends and family know that they can support us at Tesco too. Thank you!
