Artsmark Gold

We just wanted to share with you that last week Artsmark awarded Sun Hill Infant School a Gold Award for our Arts provision. This means that we have maintained our ‘Gold’ status for over 15 years.

Over the past two and a half years many of you will be aware that we have been developing our Arts provision to ensure the very best experiences for our pupils. Some of our successes have been:

  • Our 50th Birthday celebrations which included a sunflower art gallery, a wheeled procession, our golden gates and arts performances.
  • The formation of an Arts Council made up from Key Stage One children.
  • Working in partnership with the local pre-schools, with Year One and Year Two at Cheriton Primary and with the Junior School.
  • The creation of poppy tie dye pennants and our Remembrance garden and commemoration ceremony.
  • Our plastic bottle top artwork.
  • Our recent Save the Oceans musical concert.
  • Three fantastic world book days where children had the opportunity to follow their own lines of enquiry.
  • Providing on going staff professional development by working alongside other arts professionals.
  • Development of our art, drama, music and dance curriculum and wider opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of our commitment to ‘The Arts’ and we believe this makes us unique as a school. With a reduced budget and less staff, we will still strive to place ‘The Arts’ at the centre of the curriculum to ensure our children have the very best creative and imaginative experiences.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all staff, governors, parents and children who have helped along this Artsmark journey; we would not have achieved ‘Gold’ without all your commitment, hard work and effort. We would especially like to thank the amazing children in Arts Council who have worked with Miss Riley this year to ensure all children have a voice in their arts provision.
