Friends of Sun Hill Infant

It is hard to believe that we are already entering the final term of this academic year and it has, as ever, been a busy one for The Friends.  With Café, the Christmas Bazaar and the Easter Activity afternoon already providing us with the main stay of our fund raising for this year we can turn our attention to the remaining events on the calendar the Friends are involved in. With the rescheduled Race Night and the school’s 50th Anniversary celebrations there is still lots to enjoy.

The funds we have raised this academic year are used to enhance the children’s learning experience and the monies have already been used to pay for:

 

  • 10 replacement iPads
  • 16 bay sync trolley for the new and existing iPad storage
  • Keyboards and iPad adaptors

 

The role of the Friends is to support the school and provide the ‘luxury’ items but ever increasingly the monies raised are required for some of the more basic elements of the schools needs and it may surprise you to learn that the vast majority of the funds raised are provided to the school for things that you might be forgiven for assuming would be covered by ‘other’ budgets.

 

For 2017/2018 so far, the Friends funds that have been raised have been used to pay for:

 

  • Educational supplies for 2017/18 including art and craft supplies, supplies for the classrooms etc.
  • Books for class reading

 

Before joining the Friends, I had little or no idea what elements of my child school experience were only made possible by the monies raised by the various events and also how much the school relies on the funds to be able to ensure that some of the more basic equipment is available to the children.  We are extremely fortunate to have such an amazing school in the infants that I think at times we are in danger of assuming that the rich educational environment our children benefit from can always be delivered on the schools allocated budget year on year regardless.

Every cake that is baked for café, every offer to help at an event, everyone stepping forward when ‘that’ text comes out about more help being needed and indeed everyone who comes to support the events run by Friends are helping supply the money that is needed for both the luxury and essential items that every child in the school benefits from.

In order to be able to continue supporting the school we are in real need of some new parents to come on board in 2018/19 to support our committee and café team. We need your support to help continue the good work even if it is not in an officially capacity but by offering to bake or serve at café or help out for an hour or so with the Friends events.

If you are interested learning more about how you can help the Friends continue their fantastic fundraising and support to the school please contact me or come along to our next Friends meeting on Friday April 20th at 9am.

At the end of the summer term, we will sadly be losing several committee members as well as many fantastic volunteers who have baked, served and generally been an amazing support to the Friends over the years. 

If you think you would like to nominate yourself for a larger role within the Friends for next year then please come along to our AGM on Tuesday 3rd July at 7.30pm (further details will be sent out with regards to vacant roles). If you would like further details before hand please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Friends fundraising really does go directly towards improvements in your child’s education and we don’t want the school to have to manage without it!
