January 2018

Happy New Year and welcome to the start of a new term with lots of exciting events to look forward to. Christmas may well seem a long time ago but I wanted to take the opportunity to look back at the Bazaar and forward to the other fund raising (and social events) we have in our calendar this term with the hope that you will add them to yours!

Christmas Bazaar

A huge thank you to all that supported the Bazaar last year. It is our biggest fund raiser in the year, in the middle of what may well be the busiest term, which means are even more grateful for the huge amount of help and support we receive that makes it such a success. We had some great feedback from those that attended this year which, amongst other things, praised the variety of the Food Around the World stalls, the love of the new activities and of course the delight to see the return of the old favourites as well. It is so very important to the Friends that the Bazaar can be enjoyed by all but that it also raises money for the school and it did not disappoint this time raising a whopping £4200!! Thank to you EVERYONE who helped organise and run the afternoon and to all of you for coming.

Dates for your diary:

Friday 23rd February 8pm Social Evening – we will be meeting at The Globe for our first social of the year, please join us to find out more about the Friends, hope to see you there.

Friday 2nd March 2017 – Race Night. It’s back!!! After last year’s amazing Race Night we are pleased to announce that Nick from Moonlight Events will be returning to transform the school hall into our own Race Course for an evening of high energy and entertainment. Please come along and have a flutter, tickets are £10 each to include a fish and chip supper and with a paid bar it is a great night. We will be offering the opportunity to sponsor horses please keep an eye out for details regarding this and how to buy tickets coming soon but it’s a really popular event so don’t miss out. Sunday 25th March Easter Activity Afternoon - Please come and join us for an afternoon of Easter fun in the school hall between 2pm and 4pm. There will be lots of craft activities for the children as well as an Easter Egg Hunt in the school grounds and Café. As always these afternoons couldn’t run without your support so we would love to see you there and of course if you can help on this afternoon please complete the form below  and return it to The Friends box outside the office!

On a not so positive note sadly at the moment we are having to consider if we able to continue to run the cafe every week and it is a real possibility that we will not be able to unless we have more people offer to help serve. This would result in a significant loss of funds toward supporting the school with their resourcing needs.

We currently only have 13 servers from the entire school population and despite numerous communications from both FOSHI and the school to increase those numbers we simply do not have enough servers to make café viable.

The café ‘shift’ is 2.30-4pm. It can be split with a friend 2.30-3.15pm & 3.15-4pm in order to share looking after little ones (I did this myself when my boys were small) and it works well. With more servers we can keep café running and each volunteer will have to do less meaning everyone can enjoy it.

There are forms available below to complete and return to the office if you would like to be added to the serving rota and also if you think you have been missed off the rota having offered before we will happily add you back on!

The Friday afternoon café is for EVERYONE to enjoy. Please can we respectfully ask that you return your cups to the serving hatch (as the children are asked to do at lunch times), clear up any mess that is made at the tables as this is not the job of the servers and most importantly please please supervise your children as we have experienced damaged to school property recently by unsupervised children which as I am sure you will agree is not acceptable. You will see a few changes to the way café is set up over the next few weeks, these have been made in order to ensure the whole school population can enjoy café and to ensure it can remain a lovely start to the weekend for all.

Our next Friends meeting will be held on Friday 23rd February at 9am if you would like to come along we would love to see you.

Thank you as always for your continued support.

Best Wishes
